Crochet tulips

Hello :) I've been wanting to crochet some tulips for a while, more crochet flowers to brighten up my craft room. So this bank holiday weekend that's exactly what I decided to make.

I thought I'd share the pattern here if you fancy a go :)

You will need:
3.5mm and 3mm crochet hooks (or the size appropriate for your yarn/tension)
50g balls of DK yarn (I used Rainbow Cotton 8/8 gifted to me by Hobbii.com)
Knitting needles or small stick
Stuffing

Stitches: (UK terms)
ch - chain
ch-sp - chain space
dc - double crochet (US sc)
htr - half treble crochet (US hdc)
st(s) - stitch(es)
tr - treble crochet (US dc)

Tulip Flower

Using pink and 3.5mm hook, make 2ch  (work in continuous rounds).

Round 1: 6dc in second ch from hook (6dc)

Round 2: 2dc in each st around (12dc)

Round 3: (1dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times (18dc)

Round 4: (2dc, 2dc in next st) 6 times (24dc)

Rounds 5 to 14: 1dc in each st around.

Fasten off leaving a long yarn tail.

If using a knitting needle as the stem, push this through the bottom centre of the flower.

Stuff flower lightly and to form tulip shape thread the yarn through 4sts which are 6sts apart around the top edge as shown. Pull thread to close gap and weave in ends.

Stem cover

Using green and 3mm hook, make 2ch (work in continuous rounds).

Round 1: 6dc in second ch from hook (6dc)

Rounds 2 to end: 1dc in each st around. Continue until stem is covered

Fasten off leaving a long yarn tail and sew to bottom of flower.

Leaf

Using green and 3.5mm hook, make 25ch.

Round 1: 1dc in second ch from hook, *1dc, 2htr, 20tr, 2htr, 2dc, 2ch*, rotate so working in underside of ch, 1dc, rep from * to *, join with sl st to first st (48sts)

Round 2: 1ch, *24dc, (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) in ch-sp, rep from * once more, join with sl st to first st. (52sts)

Fasten off leaving a long yarn tail and sew to stem, curling bottom of leaf around stem and stitching in place as shown. If you don't want the leaf to flop, thread a thin piece of florist wire through the centre of the leaf along the back.
