Is it too early to mention the C word or B word? Oh well, whatever, here goes......Christmas..... Baubles!! I know lots of people love autumn but October always makes me feel a little sad and miserable, maybe its the change in the weather or the lack of daylight/sunlight or the clocks changing, BUT once we get into November and we start thinking of Christmas and sparkly lights and decorations I start to feel better.
Marriner yarns kindly sent me some samples of yarn to try back in September and I immediately fell in love with their Mermaid DK and Mercerised Cotton DK yarns. So of course now I'm in the mood :) I had to make some bauble cosies didn't I?
And here's the pattern:
Bauble Cosies
You will need:
3,5mm hook
Baubles 4cm
Marriner Mermaid DK in Carnival
Marriner Mercerised Cotton DK in Berry and Grey
Yarn needle
This pattern is written in UK terms:
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
dc - double crochet
When changing colour, start the new colour just before completing the last stitch ie. before the final yarn over hook.
Mermaid Bauble (make 2)
Work in continuous rounds.
Make 2ch
Round 1: 6dc in second chain from hook (6)
Round 2: 2dc in each st around (12)
Round 3: (dc, 2dc in next st) six times, continue changing yarn as you go (18)
Round 4: (2dc, 2dc in next st) six times (24)
Rounds 5 to 6: 24dc
Fasten off leaving a long thread to sew the two halves together.
To finish
Sew two halves together around bauble, I started at the bottom and used both ends, one way and then the other, up to the top. You may find the yellow stitches stand out more, if so fasten off and use another length of yarn to sew together.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Stripey Bauble (make 2)
Make one half starting in Berry and the second starting in Grey
Rather than cutting yarn on each round carry it upwards at the back of your work.
Using Berry/Grey, make 2ch
Round 1: 6dc in second chain from hook, join with sl st to first st (6)
Round 2: Join Grey/Berry, ch, 2dc in each st around, join with sl st to first st (12)
Round 3: Using Berry/Grey, ch, (dc, 2dc in next st) six times, join with sl st to first st (18)
Continue changing yarn as you go
Round 4: ch, (2dc, 2dc in next st) six times, join with sl st to first st (24)
Rounds 5 to 6: ch, 24dc, join with sl st to first st
Fasten off leaving a long thread to sew the two halves together as above.
Beach Ball Bauble (make 2)
Work in continuous rounds.
Rather than breaking yarn each time carry it along and upwards at the back of your work.
Using Berry, make 2ch
Round 1: dc in second chain from hook, join Grey, dc, dc in Berry, dc in Grey, dc in Berry, dc in Grey, join with sl st to first st (6)
Round 2: ch, 2dc in each st around, working 2dc alternately in Berry and Grey, join with sl st to first st (12)

Round 2: ch, 2dc in each st around, join with sl st to first st (12)
Round 3: ch, (dc, 2dc in next st) six times, join with sl st to first st (18)
